1) WHAT ARE THE AGE LEVELS OF THE VARIOUS OILERS TEAMS?

The Oilers can accept any player ages 7-12, with the effective date for play of September 1st of the current year.

Freshman are ages 7-8, and the Oilers permit only 5 players who are 7 year olds the option to play, all others are 8.

Sophomores are 9-10 years old, regardless of grade level.

Juniors are 10-11 year olds, regardless of grade.

Seniors are 11-12 year olds, and under no circumstance can be in the 7th grade for any part of the season.

2) WHAT TYPE OF FOOTBALL DO THE OILERS PLAY?

The Oilers are part of the AAYFDT and are a full contact, youth football program.

We follow our rules for competition (see documents section) and any issue not specifically covered in that document we then refer back to UIL standards as the guiding instrument for rules, regulations and principles.

The team provides the following:
Helmet, with accessories
Shoulder Pads
Pant Pads

Game Jersey
Practice Pants
Game Pants

4) WHAT ARE THE DIRECT COSTS OF REGISTERING AS A OILER?

Registration Fee= $150
Fundraiser/Buyout= $150
Total = $300 per season

5) ARE THERE ADDITIONAL FEES OR COSTS I MIGHT HAVE TO CONSIDER?

There are always incidental expenses that are very hard to predict. Common expenses reported by parents and players are:
Own mouthpiece
Own chin strap
Cleats
Under Shirts

6) CAN MY PLAYER WEAR GLASSES?

Any corrective vision devices must be approved by the Athletic Director prior to authorization of full contact.

7)WILL MY PLAYER JUST "WARM THE BENCH"?

The table belows exhibits the minimum plays per level of qualified participants on game day:
Freshman/Sophomore:

# Of Players-Game Time # Of Plays Required
15-20 14
21-25 12
26+ 10

Junior/Senior:

# Of Players-Game Time # Of Plays Required
15-20 17
21-25 15
26+ 10

8) WHAT HAPPENS IF MY PLAYER MISSES A PRACTICE?

This is a very common and important question. Missing practice one day in any week has no negative consequences.

Missing two practices in one week automatically disqualifies the player for that weeks game day.
?
Missing two practices over two weeks also disqualifies that player from the following game.

9) WHEN AND WHERE DO THE OILERS PRACTICE? PLAY GAMES?

The Oilers typically practice at Hildebrandt Intermediate School. The practice days are set as Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, while game days are Saturday.
We are limited to a total of 6 hours per week of total football time, which is broken down to 3 x 1.5 hour practices and 1 x 1.5 hour game.
Our Athletic Director ensure adherence to this schedule and we must report to the league compliance, including start and end times of each practice.
Home games are played at either Hildebrandt Intermediate School-Game Field or Klein Oak High School-Stadium Field.
Away games are at similar facilities that the league acquires through our close association with Klein, Spring and Tomball school districts.

10) WHAT ARE THE VOLUNTEER POSITIONS THAT I CAN DO TO SATISFY MY VOLUNTEER TIME REQUIREMENT?
Typically, volunteer time is used for games days and the following positions are required noted home or away games:
1. Announcer (Home only)
2. Monitor (observes that other team meets minimum play requirements)(Home & Away)
3. Observer (ensures the Oiler team meets the minimum play requirements)(Home & Away)
4. Photographer, takes still photographs and delivers to KOBC by end of game day. (Digital preferred)(Home & Away)
5. Concession Stand Attendant(Home only)
6. Water Steward Team (x3), brings, maintains and delivers water for delivery to the players on the field and sidelines, before and during the game. (Home & Away)

12) IF IT'S RAINING, DO WE STILL HAVE OUR PRACTICE OR GAME?

The athletic director has a device that measures the distance from lightning strikes to the handheld device. If at any time a lightning strike is <8 miles away, he suspends practice for a minimum of 30 minutes from last strike inside the 8 mile radius.
Practice and games are always considered playable until local officials determine, at the time of practice or game, whether or not it's safe to continue.
A practice is considered "Officially Completed" after 30 minutes of activity. Any practice not bearing this designation is subject to makeup in its entirety during the week prior to the game. Makeup practices cannot be carried over to subsequent weeks after games. ?

13) ARE THERE ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS TO BE AN OILER?

The Klein Oiler organization strongly encourages our players to maintain their grades on a level that is rewarding to themselves, their families and the organization. Coaches have the authority to impose sanctions for not meeting those expectations, as does the Klein Oiler board.

Generally, we adhere to a "No Pass/No Play" rule that we communicate to the teams in advance of school starting at the end of summer. No one in the Oiler organization puts football above academics for any reason.

While this is not a official rule, most coaches take a dim view of their players not keeping their grades above passing and most have negative consequences for any grade below a "C".

Most teachers at our schools know that they can reference Oiler dissatisfaction with current grades and the results can be very positive.

14) ARE THERE MINIMUM OR MAXIMUM WEIGHTS FOR EACH OILER TEAM?

See the below table for weight limitations for each team:

Team Min*(lbs) Max(lbs)
Freshman 55 130
Sophomore 60 140
Junior 70 155
Senior 80 165

*Recommended only, up to coaches and parents to request waiver of recommended minimum weights.

15) WHEN CAN I SIGN UP MY OILER?

Registration is divided into two categories, Legacy and Open.

A legacy player is one that meets one of the following requirements:
1. Played as an Oiler the immediately preceding year.
2. Is a first year Freshman player (7 or 8 years of age).
3. Is the sibling of an Oiler or Doll who themselves participated in the immediately preceding year.

Legacy registrants have priority over open registrants up to the first open registration date or announced date of legacy rights termination. After legacy rights are terminated there can be no reinstatement of legacy rights. Legacy rights also terminate if there was a refund given during the prior year for any reason.

Legacy registration occurs in February or March preceding the playing year.

Open registration occurs AFTER legacy registration and generally has 3-4 dates at various locations throughout the AAYFDT district. Usually one in Spring, one in Tomball and one in Klein.

16) WHAT ARE THE AREAS DESIGNATED TO THE KLEIN OILERS?

The AAYFDT has allocated the teams zones according to the various elementary school zones denoted by Klein ISD, Tomball ISD and Spring ISD.

The Klein Oilers have been assigned the following Klein ISD elementary schools:
1. Bernshausen Elementary
2. French Elementary
3. Metzler Elementary
4. Northampton Elementary
5. Schultz Elementary

(see our documents section for a more detailed map of the Klein ISD Elementary School Boundaries)
